22" K. Zildjian (Istanbul) Intermediate Stamp Ride 2070gr
READY FULL DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY!!
So, on paper, this might be the best cymbal in the world. It’s a 22” (little undersized of course) K. Zildjian Intermediate Stamp right at a weight of only 2070 grams. Basically the cymbal we’ve all been dreaming about. There’s some center hole cracks, which is a kitty of course, but nothing dramatic. But then as soon as you start playing, you hear and feel something is off… And no, it’s not a fake. At first I thought it has a crack in a lathing groove Thani just can’t see with my bare eyes, but I had it filled up with water for a day to see if any drips would come through, but nothing happend. My best guess now would be that the cymbal has been heated (laying on a sink stove or something) with as result that the cymbal lost pretty much all of it’s tension and tone. It’s sound like it has thick layer of gaffer talenten the bottom or something, making it sound like a dry caugh.
A month ago, I had a professional lathing off just a super thin layer of the bottom, hoping that the cymbal would open up some more and becoming a cymbal that I’d actually use myself. Unfortunately it didn’t do much.
Since we don’t all have the same taste in cymbals, this might actually be great for someone else (Brian Blade played an old K like this in the past as well)! So I’m putting it up for sale, hoping someone will get a unique cymbal that fits his/her playing perfectly and for me to cover some of the losses on the cymbal.
