16" Modified Zidjian Avedis Hihat 960/970gr
This 16" Hihat is a pair of 16" crashes that were either too heavy or had a bad sound to it, which made them difficult to use in any context. That's why we decided to turn these 2 Zildjian Avedis cymbals into a paper thin hihat, to see if we could get into this Steve Jordan kinda vibe with it. Both cymbals have been relathed on the top and bottom side of the cymbal and now have a weight of 960 and 970 grams, making it a paper thin pair of hats. As a result we did get a bit of that sloppy sound you want from big hats, but because of the fresh lathing, it still has some brightness to it. Over time, that will probably mellow down a bit and will settle for a medium low sound sloppy, semi greasy pair. Because of their weight, it's also really great when it's played half open. It does give you that open hihat sound, without getting very loud, so it allows you to play it in a very dynamic way with a great musical context. No doubt that these hats will only get better and better over the next couple of years!
